Tianmen Mountain (Zhangjiajie) — ⚠️ Main Cableway Fully Suspended Since Oct 13; Only the C-Line Route Operates
The short answer
The park is open — but this is exactly the kind of change that ruins unprepared trips: the historic Tianmenshan cableway is fully out of service for an upgrade project as of October 13, 2026. A/B-line and single-ride 1/2-line packages are suspended. Only the C-line route is sold.
What the C-line route actually looks like now
- Enter at the mountain gate → ride the Tianmen Cave fast cableway up to Tianmen Cave
- Take the 7-flight through-mountain escalator to the summit
- Tour the summit sights → return by escalator → descend by the fast cableway
Operating hours: boarding from 08:00, last ticket check 16:00. A free shuttle still links the old cableway lower station (in the city) to the mountain gate.
What this means for your plan
- The famous "ride the cableway from the city" experience is unavailable — the 99-bend road + cave + summit loop is what you get.
- Tickets: C-line combinations run around CNY 288 and up depending on inclusions (escalator, summit extras).
- Refund rules were also tightened: no partial refunds on multi-ticket orders, and tickets are void after 17:00 on the visit day.
- Weather already forces frequent temporary closures of sections; with construction layered on top, check the official "张家界天门山景区" WeChat account the morning you go.
